As an artist who does a lot of abstract work, I am often asked why I complicate things so much – a painting should to be solid and comprehensible, I should be painting pictures and actual things, instead of splashing my colours everywhere. The Levels story is an answer to that question. It is a complicated theory of paintings to simplify the one singular belief – that within each of us, lives two thought processes – the left brain and the right brain.
Levels is an anthology of stories in six paintings. Each story is represented by two strikingly similar paintings with astonishingly different meanings. The encasing in the same, but the content within each is vastly different. I was fortunate to have done this series of paintings for a swanky corporate office, wherein I started right from the basement and worked my way up to the top most level – that’s where the name Levels comes in.
